Condolence From: Ingrid Pawley
Condolence: Today for some reason, I received the notice of Ernie’s passing! I think it is a message....I knew Ernie when I worked Immigration, he was an amazing mentor! We became wonderful friends and one I will miss terribly. He had the manners of a true gentleman, loved dogs, his neighbours and would do anything for you, but don’t cross him. He enjoyed his many places he travelled to and the people he met, but would always sit with his back to the walk in a restaurant, so he could see who was coming and going....security was always a part of his training. May you been free from pain and be with the people who meant so much in your life.Very special friend!

Condolence: Don and I send our sincere condolences to Ernie's family and friends. We have known Ernie for a long time, ever since we worked together at the High Commission in Delhi which is ages ago. A great colleague and friend, we have fond memories. I had travelled with him on business to Mumbai, and we also drove from Delhi to Kathmandu on a work trip, it that lasted many days and we saw so much of India and nepal. It's an adventure I will never forget. Lately we stayed in touch via email and received his updates. Don and I send our sincere condolences to Ernie's family and friends. We are very sorry to hear of Ernie's passing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. RIP Ernie

Condolence: My most sincere condolences to all... My late brother John knew Ernie during the Golden Hawk days at WLU, and I met and worked with Ernie during my 22 years with Immigration. Ernie was always pleasant, collegial, and truly professional. I remember working with Ernie on training issues, and always found him a totally committed individual.

When my brother John suffered an untimely death, Ernie was sensitive, sincere and very supportive to my family. While we haven't connected since I left the service 20 years ago, I retain many very warm and pleasant memories of Ernie, and am so sad to hear of his passing...

May the knowledge that Ernie was such a widely and warmly respected gentleman give you comfort at this difficult time, and confirmation of a life well lived. God Bless.

Condolence: Ernie was a childhood friend of me and my brother from when I was maybe nine years old. He lived nearby and we went to school together. In fact he was a friend of our family, often spending time at our house where he was always thoughtful and respectful to my parents and all my brothers and sisters. We had various adventures and I have many nice memories of him. On one occasion when we were teenagers he pushed his parents' power lawn mower about a mile to our house so he could cut our lawn, which had gotten a bit too long for our old push mower, probably because I had neglected my chores. I don't know if his parents were aware of his little "volunteer" effort, but he got the job done with the goodness of heart for which we all knew him. Another time my brother and I, another friend and Ernie were hiking down by the river near the end of Victoria Avenue. Ernie fell a few feet and broke his arm, and we had to rescue him up the cliff, with some help. The story hit the local newspaper, and even the Buffalo radio news, which reported that he had fallen 200 feet into the gorge! It was no fun for Ernie but we were able to laugh about it later. I reconnected with Ernie a few years ago, and from my home in Ottawa was happy to correspond with him since then. I am sad now that he had to leave us so soon. We will all miss this fine man who was such a kind and loyal friend. My heart goes out to all the family and to others to whom Ernie was such a special and memorable person.
