Life Story for Robert L. Duncan

Robert L. Duncan
DUNCAN, Robert L. – “Bob” – Passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 88 early on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at GNGH. Beloved husband of Avril for 62 years, devoted father of Rob (Stephanie) and Wendy, adored “Gramps” of Emily (Dave) Grierson, Tim (Hollie) Duncan, Emily and Naomi Wilton. Dear brother to sister Elizabeth Ferris, cousin Rosemary Parkinson, predeceased by cherished siblings Jack, Mona, Dave, and Ivan. Remembered with great fondness for his sense of humour (and Caesar salad!) by sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews across Canada, Northern Ireland, England and Australia.
Born October 23, 1929 in Monaghan, Ireland, and raised on “The Diamond” in Clones, Bob spent ten years sailing the seas and rising through the ranks of the British Merchant Navy, becoming one of the youngest ever to earn a First Mate’s ticket. In 1954, he emigrated to Toronto where he was joined in 1955 by Avril (nee Hall) when they were married and began to raise their family.
Bob spent his working years in the paper converting business, culminating a noteworthy career as Plant Manager, Domtar Fine Papers, St. Catharines mill. Golf was his favourite game and he loved to play with his brothers, friends, co-workers and, especially, his grandson. Never long off the tee but down the middle, he would always beat you around and on the green.
The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main St., Niagara Falls on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 7 to 9 pm and on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 12 noon to 1 pm with service to follow. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to the Hemodialysis Unit– St. Catharines Site of NHS.
