Balogh, Dr. Arpad “Arp”
Dr. Balogh died peacefully in the company of his loved ones on Friday, March 23, 2018, at St. Michael’s cardiac ICU following a lengthy illness. Born in Klagenfurt, Austria, on February 21, 1948, to Istavan and Lydia. Dearly loved partner of Lynn Seniw. Proud father of Mark (Emily), Christopher, and Susan. Admired brother to Francis (Carloyn), and uncle to Wendy.
Arp grew up in St. David’s, Ont., and attended medical school at the University of Toronto. After having to locate it in an atlas, he ventured to Bruce Mines to begin work as a family physician. His career led him to Sault Ste. Marie, where he practiced
privately and with the Group Health Centre for nearly 40 years. He will be remembered for his professional generosity and kindness, as well as his involvement with St. Mary’s Paper, Algoma Steel, Coroner services, and surgical assistance. He will also be remembered for his service as a long-time Scouts Canada leader, curling and softball enthusiast, and for having a great dry sense of humour. He was a one-of-a-kind person who benefited many throughout our community.
The family would like to thank the ICU and renal doctors and nurses at Sault Area and St. Michael’s hospitals for their kind and compassionate care. Donations in honour of Dr. Balogh’s contributions to the community may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Kidney Foundation or to any charity that would help someone get to Disney World. Arp has requested no visitation or service and cremation has taken place with the assistance of Morse and Son Funeral Home of Niagara Falls.
