Life Story for Dusan "Danny" Vuksan

Dusan "Danny" Vuksan
Vuksan, Dusan “Danny” – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dusan on Tuesday November 20, 2018 at Eventide Nursing Home at the age of 87. Beloved husband of Magdica for 66 years. Devoted father of Ranko “Ray” (Kosana). Adored grandfather of Mirjana and Anka (Robert). Survived by Prija Anna Djurdjevich and Gavro. Predeceased by parents Stevo & Milka and brother Petar in Yugoslavia. Loving brother-in-law of Ivan (Sharon) and their children Stephan and Jennifer Lukacic of Grimsby. Survived by his sister-in-law Marica and niece Dusanka (Tony) from Hamilton and their children Boro and Sanja and their families. Extended family Davor and Radmila Perhot of Niagara Falls and their children. Vaso and Natalia Todorovic of Hamilton and their family. Niece Zvezdana (Vojoslav) Radotic of Hamilton and their family. He will also be remembered by extended family, Kumovi and friends. He was born in Selo Tuk, Yugoslavia on March 18, 1931. He then immigrated to Canada, and arrived on Victoria Day in May of 1958, where he settled in Hamilton. One year later his wife Magdica and son Ranko joined him, where they started to build a life. He started off working on a tobacco farm in Simcoe, and various other jobs to survive. In 1960 they bought their first home, 401 Lake Ave. North. In 1964, he built a Mechanic Shop where he started doing body work. During this time he also studied English and became a licenced Electrician. Carpentry was his trade in Yugoslavia. He was employed by Adam Clark, working on the construction of McMaster Hospital in Hamilton. In 1976 he ventured into the hotel industry. He bought the Rapids Tavern on River Road in Niagara Falls, which was well known for “chicken in a basket”, and amazing Superbowl parties, lovingly cooked by Mom. Dusan worked alongside his wife and son for years, building a successful business. During this time he also purchased a 50 acre vineyard in St. Davids where he loved working. Then in 1988 he decided to go back to school, finishing top in class and obtained a pilot’s license at the St. Catharines flying club. This was his weekend passion. In 1989 he sold the Rapids Tavern, travelled, then went into construction work building homes for his son, himself and investment properties. In 1990 he went back into the hotel business, opening Ray’s Place on Victoria Avenue in the Falls. He also kept busy with different endeavors until his retirement in 1996. Since then Dusan and Magdica enjoyed their home, gardens, family and weekend barbecues. A special thanks to Major Renée Clarke, the staff and nurses for all of their care and compassion towards Dad, myself and my family during this most difficult time.
Will receive friends at Morse & Son Funeral Home, 5917 Main Street from 2-4pm & 7-10pm on Friday November, 23rd. Pomen will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday evening at 8 o’clock by the Rev. Fr. Milorad Delic. Funeral will be held on Saturday November, 24th at 11:00 o’clock at the funeral home, and then to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church where service will be held at 11:30. Interment at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, the family would greatly appreciate and request those who wish to make a memorial donation to St. George & St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church building fund for our new church hall.
