Obituary for Cynthia Grace Maynard (Whitten)

Cynthia Grace Maynard (Whitten)
MAYNARD, Cynthia Grace (née Whitten)
1950-2019.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cynthia Maynard on Friday, October 25, 2019 at Chartwell Long Term Care, Niagara-on-the-Lake, aged 69. Beloved wife of the Rev. Paul Maynard for forty-eight years, devoted mother of Stephanie Maynard (Emilio Bolainez, Montréal) and Steven Maynard (Candice Hayman, Halifax). Beloved grandmother of Luke and Madeline Maynard. Dearest sister of Roma Carey. Cynthia is fondly remembered by many extended family and friends.
Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland to Roland and Eliza Whitten, from an early age Cynthia exhibited unique and exceptional talent in the field of music. She played piano on CBC television at the age of sixteen and was the recipient of many awards for her outstanding performances. This led to her pursuit of degrees from Trinity College of London, Mount Allison University and finally a master’s degree from the esteemed Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music. Cynthia served the field of music education from coast to coast to coast, where her last teaching duties were in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. She has equally served as music director and church organist in many locations throughout the country. Cynthia’s love of choral music led to international tours with her secondary school choirs and she was selected as one of four Canadians to participate in the study of English choral music at Cambridge University. Cynthia was also chosen as a member of the College of Examiners at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Cynthia was an avid gardener, animal lover and a passionate advocate for the elderly, disadvantaged and marginalized. She was the life of the party, an unwavering confidante and had a smile and spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew her. Cynthia was most passionate about her family and friends, but above all her husband Paul, with whom she shared a love story that was the envy of many.
The family will receive friends at Christ Church, 4750 Zimmerman Ave., Niagara Falls, ON, on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 10-11 a.m., with the service to follow.
As expression of sympathy, memorial donation to Golden Rescue Ontario (https://www.goldenrescue.ca) and Christchurch, Niagara Falls would be appreciated by the family.
