I remember Mr. Istchenko as such a kind, accepting and wonderful human being. Sometime after I married my wife, Irena Welhasch, we met him in Niagara while we were visiting my parents. Knowing his name was Ukrainian she immediately spoke to him in that language and his pleasure in replying to her was wonderful to see. So many people from my background did not know or understand that many of them had come from Ukraine after the "revolution" at the start of the 20th century. Alex Istchenko was proud of his heritage, his beliefs and who he was. A life well lived and one who remains a great memory for me in a profoundly personal way. Rest in peace!

Our heartfelt condolences to the entire Istchenko family! What wonderful memories I have of meeting the Istchenkos at the coffee shop over the years! He was truly a special person that I came to respect. May The Lord bless all of you during this difficult time. I am sorry that we will be unable to attend the funeral.

Knew Alex well from my years teaching at NDSS. He always was friendly and helpful. He and Stan Millet were a real team! Also went to NDSS with son Alex for 5 years. So sorry for your loss of a great father!!!
