Life Story for
Bruce Douglas Green
GREEN, Bruce Douglas- Passed away peacefully at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, after a year-long battle with chondrosarcoma at the age of 63. He was surrounded by family and friends, supporting him with their strength, when he could no longer hold his own.
Bruce lived a full and rewarding life, serving with the Niagara Falls Fire Department for 30 years, achieving the rank of platoon chief before retiring in August of 2014. He had the honour of attending the 9/11 disaster site in New York City in October of 2001, to assist firefighters dealing with PTSD. He took pride in helping everyone around him with his humour and contagious laugh. He loved playing tennis, attending concerts with his wife, camping, his front porch, and spending time at the cottage with family. Bruce leaves behind his beloved wife of 35 years, Patricia (nee Scott); his children Andrew, Johnny and Gracie; mother-in-law Ethel Scott; niece Jennifer Harris; and good friend Jim Toth. Bruce is predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Marie Green; and his sisters Joanne Laurie (Lee) and Stephanie Lynn Green. The family would like to thank ER, orange line and trillium unit palliative care staff for their excellent care and compassion, with a special thank you to Danielle for her guidance through the process of medical assistance in dying (MAID).
Cremation has taken place, followed by a private family service. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Heartland Forest or to GNGH.
