Memories of a kind and wonderful man!
I remember Mr. Istchenko as such a kind, accepting and wonderful human being. Sometime after I married my wife, Irena Welhasch, we met him in Niagara while we were visiting my parents. Knowing his name was Ukrainian she immediately spoke to him in that language and his pleasure in replying to her was wonderful to see. So many people from my background did not know or understand that many of them had come from Ukraine after the "revolution" at the start of the 20th century. Alex Istchenko was proud of his heritage, his beliefs and who he was. A life well lived and one who remains a great memory for me in a profoundly personal way.
Rest in peace!
